Computer is such an electronic device that processes the data input by the user and provides information as a result, or we can also say a computer is an electronic machine that follows the instructions given by the user and fulfil predefined objective of user. It has the ability to store, retrieve and process data. You can use a computer to type documents, send email, play games, and browse the web. You can also use it to create spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos.
Computer System Concept
A computer system is a combination of hardware and software. The physical and tangible parts/components of the computer that can be seen and touched are known as hardware. Hardware consists of the physical components of a computer system such as input devices (keyboard, mouse, scanner, etc.), output devices (monitors, printers, speakers, etc.), processing devices (CPUs) and storage devices such as compact discs, hard disks, DVDs, etc.
Software is the set of programs and instructions that control the operation of a computer system. The computer system cannot do anything on its own. The computer performs the same tasks as it is instructed by the user, the programs written in the computer are written in the language understood by the computer.
A group of units working to achieve one or more objectives is called a “system”. Like – Hospital is a system whose units are Doctor, Nurse, Medical, Treatment, Operation, Peasant etc. Similarly, computer also works as a system which has the following parts.
- Hardware
- Software
- User
Computer Hardware
Those parts of the computer which we can touch and see are called hardware. Like- Keyboard, Mouse, Printer, Scanner, Monitor, C.P.U. etc.
Computer Software
Those parts of the computer which we cannot touch and can only see are called software. Like- MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Photoshop, PageMaker etc.
User
The person who runs the computer, operates it and gets the result, is called user.
